King Gesar Lion Dragon Palace Cultural Preservation Center — Appointed Lead Director (总导演), inaugural documentary production
Zekai Zhang is a New York-based filmmaker whose work moves between documentary and narrative forms — drawn to places where philosophy becomes visible, where ancient tradition meets contemporary life.
His current project, The Lion Dragon Palace, is the first documentary on the living oral epic tradition of King Gesar — the longest epic in human literary history — developed in direct partnership with the Lion Dragon Palace Cultural Preservation Center, Qinghai Province.
He is the founding director of Chan-Chan Foundation, a New York 501(c)(3) nonprofit. His films have been recognized at WorldFest-Houston, SIFF, NYIFA, and international festivals across Europe.
Available for documentary projects, cultural commissions, and collaborations that engage seriously with tradition, philosophy, and the moving image.
